2024 Poker Masters
For the 2024 edition of the prestigious Poker Masters, the series consisted of eight high-stakes poker tournaments, with buy-ins ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. The series ran September 10-19, 2024, at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas. The player to accumulate the most points and finish atop the series leaderboard was Jim Collopy, winning him the series' $25,000 championship bonus and coveted Purple Jacket.
Winning the opening event of the series was Spencer Champlin, and this opener was notable for a few different reasons. First, Champlin had won his way into the event via a satellite tournament leading into the series. Champlin reached heads-up against another satellite winner, Jessica Vierling. The bang for their buck for Champlin and Vierling was enormous, as they cashed for $160,475 and $98,250, respectively. The second notable thing for the opening event of the 2024 Poker Masters was that with 131 entries it set the field size record for largest-ever Poker Masters event. The third notable thing, which of course played a role in helping the field size become so large, was that the opening event was a $5,000 buy-in for the first time in Poker Masters history, which was a change from previously being a $10,000 buy-in opener.
Collopy's run to the Purple Jacket began with a sixth-place finish in Event #3: $10,000 NL Hold'em. It was in this event that Collopy picked up $47,000 in prize money and began a string of four consecutive final table finishes. Collopy followed up his run in Event #3 with a third-place finish in Event #4: $10,000 NL Hold'em for $105,300, and then he bettered himself again in Event #5: $10,000 NL Hold'em thanks to a second-place performance for $142,500. A second consecutive runner-up result came in Event #6: $15,000 NL Hold'em when Collopy placed second to Isaac Haxton and earned another $226,800 in prize money. All told, Collop won $521,600 in prize money which equated to 522 leaderboard points. That was good enough to best all comers and win Collopy the 2024 Poker Masters Purple Jacket.
Collopy ended the 2024 PGT season with 1,757 points, which was good for seventh position on the regular-season leaderboard. Collopy then entered the PGT $1,000,000 Championship seventh in chips to start and played his way to a sixth-place result for $40,000.
