The Main Event of the 2017 Aussie Millions took a well-deserved day off so the final table of the AUD$100,000 Challenge could take center place. The world’s best recently-retired, recreational player Fedor Holz wouldn’t have a day off with a chair at both final tables.

Ultimately, Nick Petrangelo and Mike Watson fought heads-up for the title as Venus and Serena Williams set to duel each other in the Finals of the Australian Open. Petrangelo started down 2-1 in chips, took the momentum in over a dozen hands and took the down title worth AUD$882,000.

“It feels good obviously,” Petrangelo said following the win. “We waited all week to play a seven-hand final table where only three spots pay. Anything could have happened and I’m happy with the result.”

“We were playing for quite a bit money, we didn’t chop or anything,” Petrangelo added. “This is the last tournament I’m playing until April 1st because I’m going on vacation.”

Petrangelo used a couple well-timed river overbets during a short time that put Watson on the defensive and swung momentum Petrangelo’s way. But it was an ill-timed bluff from Watson that ended his tournament.

Holz finished in third place for AUD$352,800 and can look forward to Sunday’s Main Event Final Table with AUD$1.6 million up for grabs.

The day began with seven players returning for the three spots that paid. Finishing before the money were David Steicke, David Peters, Steffen Sontheimer and Sam Trickett.

The Main Event final table featuring Holz, 2011 third place finisher Jeff Rossiter and WSOP braclet winner David Olson kicks off at 12:30 local time. Jason Somerville returns for his third day broadcasting on his Twitch channel.
