When the Poker Masters $100,000 Championship final table returned to play to a winner on Wednesday night, six players were all within touching distance of the Poker Masters Purple Jacket. While Steffen Sontheimer was in the driver’s seat, a strong German contingent, led by Fedor Holz, was hot on his tails. Each of the final six had a chance to end the inaugural Poker Masters series with the most stylish trophy in poker, but those chances would only materialize if the table could slow Steffen Sontheimer.

Spoiler alert: They couldn’t. There were plenty of Purple Jacket possibilities heading into the final table, but if Sontheimer finished 1st or 2nd, none of them mattered. After a slow start to the final table, Sontheimer made it to heads up play and thanks to Fedor Holz’s 3rd place elimination, Sontheimer had locked up the Purple Jacket. The inaugural Poker Masters champion had been crowned, but there wasn’t time for celebrations just yet. Sontheimer still had unfinished business and a heads up match with countryman Christian Christner to attend to.

After a back and forth battle, Sontheimer booked the victory and found himself in another Poker Masters winner’s circle. The cash was his fourth of the series, the win was his second, and the $1.5 million score pushed his Poker Masters earnings over $2.7 million. While he enjoyed the Event #2 winner’s circle by himself, Sontheimer invited his friends to join in on the celebrations after the $100,000 Championship. Over $33 million in live tournament earnings surrounded the Event #5 winner, pictured top, and even though those numbers are mind-numbing, Sontheimer’s Poker Masters numbers are arguably even more so.
