The Texas Poker Open $3,300 Main Event has crowned its second winner with Houston local Ravee "Sonny" Sundara topping the 699-entrant field to win the $283,143 first-place prize and the Texas Poker Open belt buckle trophy.
A frequent player of all Champions Club Texas tournaments, Sundara emerged victorious and won his first PGT title in his hometown poker room. Having just two previous PGT-qualifying cashes, Sundara's PGT earnings now eclipse $313,000 from his three cashes. According to The Hendon Mob, Sundara now has more than $894,000 in lifetime tournament earnings and moves to 105th in the Texas All-Time Money List.
The second installment of the Texas Poker Open saw the return of the $2,000,000 prize pool guarantee in the Main Event. Following the inaugural outing in 2024 that saw a 735-entrant field, the 2025 running of the Texas Poker Open would see 699 entrants create a prize pool of $2,097,000 that paid 88 players who advanced to Day 2.
Players eliminated on Day 2 in the money included Jonathan Tamayo, Asher Conniff, Andrew Ostapchenko, Francis Anderson, Michael Berk, Ray Qartomy, David Chen, Aaron Massey, Jeremy Becker, Jeff Platt, Isaac Kempton, Philip Hellmuth III, David Mzareulov, Han Feng, Nguyen Le, Daniel Sepiol, Matthew Wantman, and Joey Weissman.
Day 3 began with just 11 players remaining as Brian Green and Michael Liang were early casualties to set the final table of nine, as Kaleb Harwell held onto the overnight chip lead. Play continued, and Justin Liberto was eliminated in ninth place after losing a race to Andrew Moreno before the PokerGO livestream began. Viet Vo was eliminated in eighth place when he lost a race with king-queen against the ace-seven suited of Aaron Gao.
William Benson exited the next hand when his pocket kings were outdrawn by the ace-king suited of Gao, who turned a flush. Moreno was then eliminated in sixth when his shove with a straight draw couldn't improve against the two pair of Harwell. Phu Vo rivered a Broadway straight but was shown the full house of Sundara to put the tournament down to the final four. Jason Bullock exited next in fourth when his ace-eight lost to Gao's queen-ten suited.
The final three players all agreed to an ICM deal where they would reserve $60,000 and the Texas Poker Open belt buckle for the winner. After some three-handed play with chips going back-and-forth between all three players, Gao shoved with queen-deuce from the small blind and Harwell called in the big blind with pocket tens.
Sundara and Harwell agreed to a new heads-up deal and decided to do a best-of-three Pot-Limit Omaha flip to decide the winner. Sundara won both hands and claimed the title of Texas Poker Open champion, collecting $283,143 in prize money, 283 PGT points, and the Texas Poker Open belt buckle trophy.
