A poker player rarely goes by their real name at the table. Play with someone long enough, you start referring to them by a feature associated with their person. For example, high stakes pro Michael Glick goes by ‘Mike the Hat.’ As poker became mainstream on television, nicknames became a defining feature for players for both as a marketing tool and frankly, a way to make the game more fun.

Six of the best nicknames are assembled on Poker After Dark in the, you guessed it, “Nicknames” episode. The $20,000 sit-n-go features as many characters as a comic book series with Phil ‘The Poker Brat’ Hellmuth and Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari headlining the show.

Now available on PokerGO inside THE VAULT is a table assembled with big names with even bigger games.

Other notable names on the docket include Phil ‘The Unabomber’ Laak and Mike ‘The Mouth’ Matusow.

Making the first of her four Poker After Dark appearances is Annette ‘The Huntress’ Obrestad. Known better by her online monicker ‘Annette_15,’ Obrestad was a legend in the MTT streets before making a splash in one of her first ever live events.

When the World Series of Poker went to Europe for the first time in 2007, Obrestad won the WSOPE Main Event for £1 million. That win catapulted her into super-stardom and she rode that wave for a few years before gradually phasing out of the live scene.

Obrestad’s nickname is self-explanatory and sometimes a nickname doesn’t have to be overly complicated. For example, Erick ‘E-Dog’ Lindgren. A letter and a phrase. Easy game.

Most players earned their nicknames through outsized personalities and followed through on that promise by delivering an entertaining game.

Unlike most online players of her generation, Obrestad is outgoing and ready to put on a show that is more than just poker.

There’s a reason why all six players in this lineup have maintained relevancy in the seven years since this episode first aired. Nicknames are memorable for a reason and this episode of Poker After Dark full explains why.

Join the fun inside THE VAULT on PokerGO with new episodes of Poker After Dark expected to be announced soon on PokerCentral.com.
