It’s mid-August and what used to be a down time in poker is now one the busiest parts of the schedule with major events across the country. This Week in Poker saw Poker Central commenatator Nick Schulman return to high stakes, Maria Ho is the hardest working woman in poker and Tom Dwan makes his return to the new Poker After Dark.

Nick Schulman Wins SHRPO $50,000 High Roller for $440,000

One of the voices of PokerGO, the WSOP and the Super High Roller Bowl – Nick Schulman – stepped back on the felt and took down the two-day event at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. He topped a field 19 entries and defeated Jake Schindler for the title.

Schindler earned $260,000 for runner-up, 2016 SHR Bowl winner Rainer Kempe finished in third for $180,000 and Franco Luca min-cashed in fourth place for $120,000.

Schulman was the subject of a recent Pokerography and his compelling story is available only on PokerGO. Step back into the booth with Schulman with either his work on the 2017 Super High Roller Bowl or on the World Series of Poker.

Maria Ho Joins World Poker Tour Commentary Team

Maria Ho wrapped up her vacation, stepped on a plan and started her next gig. While there, she announced her new gig, before hosting her old gig all while coming off a summer where she had three gigs.

Ho joins Jeff Gross as co-commentators for the ClubWPT King of the Club Series. This week she is hosting the “Big Four” at SHRPO before heading to the WinStar World Casino for their River Poker Series.

Ho was also featured on Pokerography in one of PokerGO’s latest offerings. Her story of growing up in a traditional Chinese household to one of the top poker personalities is a can’t miss watch.

The PCA is Back!

PokerStars, now under the directions of The Stars Group Inc., announced that their highlight live event of the year returns as the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The company left the PCA brand behind in 2017 as the PokerStars Championship Events took over the schedule.

Company spokesman Eric Hollreiser said, ““We’re reviewing our live events and incorporating player feedback to ensure we’re delivering the highest quality experience and exceeding player expectations whenever possible. 

“This feedback included suggestions that we restore the PCA name and improve the quality of that event to reflect the great heritage and unique experience that made PCA one of the most-anticipated poker events of the year,” Hollreiser said. “We’re restoring the name and reinvigorating the event to ensure it remains a premiere poker festival.”

The Main Event returns to the $10,000 price point and there’s huge reduction in fees across the board, especially for high stakes players. The company estimates players will save approximately $300,000 with the reduced costs.

Tom Dwan Returns for Poker After Dark

The first new episodes of Poker After Dark features a $100,000 buy-in cash game and Tom Dwan makes his highly-anticipated return to Las Vegas poker. He’ll be joining Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari, Jean-Robert Bellande, Lauren Roberts and Bill Klein during the first week.

“I travel around a lot to play poker, and in Manila and Macau people ask me about those shows,” said Dwan. “All over the world people liked watching those, and every time I get asked ‘When will they be back?’ I’m excited that now, after six years, they will be back.”

Dwan took time to talk about the current high stakes games happening in Asia, returning to the US and playing on PAD.

The archives are being filled out with past seasons of PAD on PokerGO; currently Seasons 1 and 2 are complete and Season is nearly complete.
