The action on Day 2C of the WSOP Main Event was spread out through the Amazon, Pavillion and Brasilia room as 3,480 players continued their journey towards poker fame and fortune. At the end of the night, 1,655 players advanced to Day 3, combining for 2,786 total players on Saturday.
With names like Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Patrik Antonius, Loni Harwood, and Cliff Josephy headlining the action, the Rio was packed with both players and spectators. Here’s a look at some of the action I captured earlier here on Day 2!
As far as televised cash games go, High Stakes Poker was the number one show during the poker boom. Anyone who watched these shows would listen to Gabe Kaplan break down the action, as the biggest named pros battled it out at the highest stakes. Kaplan has quite the poker resume himself with nearly $2 million in live earnings, but he couldn’t get anything going on Day 2 of this year’s Main Event, hitting the rail in the third level of play.Poker pros and personalities are easier to reach than ever before with social media being at the center of most people’s lives. Through brutal honesty, kindness, generosity and poker acumen, Kristy Arnett’s vlog “Risk Everything” has gained serious momentum. A former video host and current poker pro, Arnett remains in contention on Day 3 of the Main Event after bagging up 81,500It seemed as if it was going to be a quiet day for the shark, but as soon as those ESPN cameras came around, Humberto Brenes found life. In this particular hand, Brenes squeezed out of the small blind, trying to lure a few players into calling his all in. Equipped with the shark in hand, Brenes played to the cameras for a bit before the other players folded. “Just for you” Brenes shouted at the camera before flashing ace-king.When it comes to Main Event controversy, few people can top the William Kassouf saga in 2016. Kassouf is known for his talk at the table, making him a guy people either tend to love or hate. Kassouf got the spot light for a few hours on an ESPN featured table and as usual had quite a few things to say. The Brit comes into Day 3 with 74,000 chips.Wherever Phil Ivey goes, the cameras, the fans, and the attention go. On Day 2C Ivey did not only survive, but he was among the top contenders throughout the day. The 10-time bracelet winner bagged up a whopping 434,200 chips and is an early favorite for a run towards the final table with his level of experience and skill.The Main Event brings people from all over the globe to take their shot at the glory. Spotted in today’s field is Social Media Queen Bruna Unzueta. Unzueta has over 1.5 Million followers on Instagram and has recently joined the 888 Poker Team. With only $10,000 in live earnings, she will look to certainly pad her resume as she tries to chase down the $8.8 Million up top.
