Las Vegas, NV (January 25, 2023) — PokerGO® today announced that Gabe Kaplan, famed commentator of poker’s most iconic cash game show, High Stakes Poker, is retiring from the show.
Kaplan, 77, spent the last nine seasons in the High Stakes Poker commentary booth, most often paired alongside A.J. Benza with whom he worked with in Seasons 1-5, Seasons 8-9, and to kick off Season 10. Kaplan was paired with Kara Scott in Season 6.
Kaplan’s replacement will be announced next week with the airing of the second episode of High Stakes Poker Season 10. Kaplan’s final episode in the commentary booth aired on PokerGO on Tuesday, January 24. In honor of Kaplan’s immense contributions to High Stakes Poker, his final episode will be re-broadcast on the PokerGO YouTube channel on Friday, January 27, at 12 p.m. ET (9 a.m. PT).
"I had a blast doing High Stakes Poker, but the time has come for me to hang it up and empty my locker,” said Gabe Kaplan. “I want to thank A.J, Mori and all the staff, players dealers and viewers. We had sixteen years of good times and now memories."
“Gabe’s impact on the poker world is nothing short of legendary,” said Mori Eskandani, President of PokerGO. “His genuine and unmatched enthusiasm for the game was evident from the first day of filming and never wavered in the more than 100 episodes that Gabe was a part of. He brought the world of high-stakes poker into millions of homes worldwide and did so by seamlessly intertwining his one-of-a-kind comedic wit and expansive knowledge of the game. Without Gabe, High Stakes Poker wouldn’t have reached the incredible heights it has achieved. Gabe will be greatly missed, and we wish him nothing but the best in retirement.”
“Working with Gabe Kaplan was a highlight of my career,” said A.J. Benza, High Stakes Poker co-commentator. “Playing the straight man to his unbelievable comedic timing was precious. Not to mention learning poker at his knee. We had a great run and that’s why you never bet against two guys from Brooklyn.”
Season 10 of High Stakes Poker premiered on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, and it was Kaplan’s final episode as commentator. In addition to the re-broadcast of this episode on the PokerGO YouTube channel on Friday, January 27, poker fans can find every episode from every previous season of High Stakes Poker on demand on the PokerGO platform.
