The 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event played down to the October Nine in an epic Day 7. The final table follows up the Day 7 insanity with more great poker with episodes now available on PokerGO.
Greg Merson enters the final table third in chips and is on a rush that no other player in the history of the World Series of Poker can match. Merson won the $10,000 Six Max No Limit bracelet the day before the Main Event started in 2012 for $1.1 million against a final table that includes Super High Roller Bowl’s Andrew Lichtenberger.
The win primed Merson for the Main Event and he galloped his way through a field of 6,598 to play for $8.5 million.
Learn more about Merson and his emotional recovery from drug addiction in “Stories from the Felt” now available on PokerGO. Before Merson could ever play heads up for a title, he had to defeat his toughest opponent: himself.
Standing in Merson’s way of a second bracelet and potential WSOP Player of the Year honors are Jeremy Ausmus and Jesse Sylvia. Ausmus opens the final table as the shortest stack of the nine players but quickly chips up into contention.
The wait until October to play the final table is one of the many topics discussed by Ausmus with Poker Central’s Remko Rinkema in a podcast available on the Poker Central Podcast Network.
Sylvia starts the final table as chip leader and goes through a tenacious three-handed battle with Merson and Jake Balsiger to decide the title. The trio set a record for most hands of three-handed play at the Main Event final table. Merson is the star of the show as he bluffs his way to big pot after big pot.
The full final table features hero calls, mega blowups, and millions of dollars on the line with every turn of the card.
