If Day 5 of the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event didn’t provide enough drama with the Rystadt/Keranen clash, Day 6 brings even more to the table.
Slow play, clock-calling, and set-over-set, it’s a bingo card of WSOP tension available only on PokerGO.
Today, the four episodes from Day 6 that bring the field from 79 to 27 become available with Mark Newhouse the main storyline.
Newhouse was enshrined into the November Nine with his ninth-place finish in 2013. Newhouse comes into Day 6 in 2014 as one of the chip leaders with only one thought in mind: “not f***ing finishing 9th again.”
The first task to accomplish that goal for Newhouse is to accumulate from his start of day chip lead. Newhouse starts his day on one of the feature tables with plucky recreational player Bill Cole fighting against him.
High stakes pro and 2018 Super High Roller Bowl contestant Dan Smith holds court on another feature table. Bruno Politano has all the chips on the table but it is Smith who is in charge with clock calls and verbal brandishment on slow play.
Politano finds another set-over-set spot and takes the chip lead early on in the day thanks to some unforeseen help from Smith.
Smith gets the chance to deal out “Kentucky Justice” a few times and keeps a smile on his face the whole time.
The fun boils over when Aaron Kaiser starts to stall for pay jumps and Smith does his best to embarrass Kaiser for his tactics.
American online poker players are back in the fold this year and making a name for themselves. New Jersey button clicker William Tonking is near the top of the leaderboard and puts his cash game skills to use in the Main Event’s deep structure.
Live pros are doing just fine with Dan Sindelar and Matt Haugen both on the uptick early on Day 6. The era of the live pro is on its back in 2014 and Sindelar finds the time away a week of cash games to be lucrative.
