It's Chance Kornuth's Purple Jacket to Lose at the 2019 Poker Masters

The 2019 Poker Masters is a series of 10 events that culminates with the final table of the $100,000 Main Event on Thursday at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas. The player who gathers the most High Roller of the Year points during this stretch of events will be crowned Poker Masters champion and receives the coveted Purple Jacket on top of a $100,000 cash prize. With three events left to be played, Chance Kornuth holds a big lead over the rest of the contenders and he’s feeling confident about his chances to become the third-ever recipient of the Purple Jacket.

“Right now, I’m a big favorite to win the Purple Jacket, and the $100,000 prize, but anyone who’s won an event an wins the $100,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the end can still pass me,” Kornuth said after finishing second in the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em event on Sunday night.

Kornuth has racked up $556,400 in cashes at the Poker Masters so far, finishing second in three events. Despite a win being much sweeter in any of those three events, Kornuth is focused and determined to become the Poker Masters champion.

“It would mean a lot to win this,” Kornuth said as he elaborated on the special nature of the Poker Masters format.

“This is one of the first times I’ve competed in a leaderboard style series of events and I really enjoy it. It’s a fun challenge and while at most series I would pick a few events to play, here I’m motivated to keep playing them all because of my results,”

At this point in the Poker Masters, none of the event winners have added another cash to their resume meaning that Kristen Bicknell, Isaac Baron, Ryan Laplante, Julien Martini, Jared Bleznick, and Jonathan Depa are stuck on 300 points for now with Kornuth sitting on 660. Sam Soverel, who’s racked up three cashes and is currently at the final table of the $25,000 Pot Limit Omaha event, is one of Kornuth’s closest rivals with 270 points and another big score pending. Kahle Burns sits on 210 points and also at the final table with Soverel.

The $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #8 that kicked off this afternoon saw point-getters such as Alex Foxen (270), Ralph Wong (240), Cary Katz (210), Erik Seidel (210), and Nick Schulman (150) play from the start. Ali Imsirovic (240) and Isaac Baron (300) are expected to play this event at some point today while the overall leader, Chance Kornuth is currently battling already.
