After flirting with PokerStars live events for some months and jumping into the deep end of the poker pool by playing their Championship High Roller and Super High Roller events, Kevin Hart called a press conference in Monte Carlo, flanked by Daniel Negreanu, to announce a sponsorship with the site.
“I am going to make poker fun, and working with PokerStars will give me the poker platform I need to do this,” Hart said. “I’m glad there are all these poker pros here who I can compete with and take their money. But the best thing about poker is that anyone can play it, whether you’re making millions like Daniel Negreanu or just sitting around the kitchen table playing for coins.”
“I’m not going to tell you yet how we’re going to do it,” Hart added. “But I have some great ideas to bring poker to the people, while having fun.”
PokerStars brass echoed Hart’s intentions of bringing the fun back to poker. Eric Hollreiser, vice president of corporate communications, said, “We take poker seriously, because that’s our business. Kevin Hart makes everything he does fun because that’s his business. Kevin is a maverick and we’re thrilled to work with him to take poker to new audiences around the world and have a great time doing it.”
At the live press conference, Hart told the PokerStars blog that, “I have bullied myself into a partnership with PokerStars. Why? Because I love the game. I’m deeply in love with the game. I’ve seen what the game is missing, and it’s missing me.”
Hart was coy on his exact plans for the future but his involvement with the site since the Bahamas brought an influx of media attention to the game and the high roller circuit.
Hart is one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars with an unrivaled work ethic. He’s averaged four major movies a year since 2011. According to Forbes, Hart was the highest paid comedian in the world in 2016 where he earned $87.5 million – some $30 million more than Jerry Seinfeld.
