Matthew Wantman is now a four-time PGT title winner after claiming the win in Event #4: $10,100 No-Limit Hold'em at the 2025 U.S. Poker Open. Wantman emerged victorious over the 103-entrant field to win the $231,300 first-place prize.
Along with being Wantman's fourth career PGT title, it is his second U.S. Poker Open victory following his win in 2024 in Event #5: $10,100 No-Limit Hold'em for $239,200. For his PGT career, Wantman has amassed 43 cashes and 23 final tables for a combined $3,033,534 in PGT earnings. He is now 93rd on the PGT All-Time Money List, and 216th on the All-Time Money List with $8,170,278, according to The Hendon Mob.
The fourth event of the U.S. Poker Open was the smallest with a 103-entrant field. The $1,030,000 prize pool was paid out to the final 15 players as the likes of Nacho Barbero, Christian Roberts, Cary Katz, Sam Soverel, Jim Collopy, Eric Blair, Andrew Moreno, and Spencer Champlin were all eliminated before the final table was set. Once Chino Rheem fell in seventh, the final six bagged for Day 1 with Stephen Chidwick the chip leader and looking to improve on his standings as the All-Time leader on the PGT in earnings and PGT points.
Patrick Leonard's tenth cash and sixth final table of the season would see him eliminated in sixth place when he called all-in with top pair and a straight draw and was drawing to only a tie against Chidwick's turned straight. Isaac Kempton was the next to fall when he was all-in with king-jack against the ace-jack of Yifu He. The board bricked out and the final table was down to four as He has surged into the chip lead. Masato "World Wide" Yokosawa was eliminated in fourth place when his ace-jack was cut down by He's nine-three suited.
As Chidwick started to clip away at He's lead, he would double Wantman back into contention. Chidwick's run at tying Daniel Negreanu with 11 PGT titles would have to wait until another event as the Brit exited in third place. Chidwick was all-in with ace-deuce against He's ace-four, and he made a four-flush with his four. He would enter heads-up play with an 8,650,000-chip advantage over Wantman's 4,225,000.
Wantman chipped away and eventually took the chip lead before He found a double back to even. Wantman then turned a straight against He's two pair to move out to roughly a three-to-one advantage. He drew it back to even before the final hand played out that saw him turn two pair and then bet-call all-in on the river. Wantman had flopped trips, and He was eliminated in second place.
