Kazuomi Furuse Claims First PGT Title at U.S. Poker Open
The 2025 U.S. Poker Open continued from the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada with Event #4: $10,100 No-Limit Hold'em. The tournament drew 103 entries and Stephen Chidwick leads the final six players.
Chidwick was a short stack near the bubble before he quickly ran it up to a seven-figure stack. Towards the end of the night, he got his chips in twice where he had his opponent pipped and doubled both times to propel himself to the top of the overnight counts. Chidwick leads a final table that includes Matthew Wantman, Yifu He, Isaac Kempton, Masato Yokosawa, and Patrick Leonard. These six players will return already guaranteed $51,500, while all eyes will be on the $262,650 first-place prize, 263 PGT points, and the Event #4 mini Golden Eagle trophy.
The field of 103 entrants created a prize pool of $1,030,000 and the final 15 players earned a piece of it. Alex Foxen was the unfortunate bubble boy when he got his ten big blinds in with fours against ace-ten and a ten landed on the flop. Nacho Barbero (15th), Christian Roberts (14th), Cary Katz (13th), Sam Soverel (12th), Jim Collopy (11th), Eric Blair (10th), Andrew Moreno (9th), and Spencer Champlin (8th) were among those to cash in the event.
The seven players converged on a single table, and although Chino Rheem held one of the top stacks, that would soon change in three consecutive hands. He first ran ace-queen suited into Chidwick's ace-king and failed to improve. On the following hand, he ran ace-nine suited into Kempton's sevens and failed to improve. On the following hand, he got ace-three in against king-nine, and when a nine fell on the flop, Rheem was eliminated in seventh place, while the six remaining players played a bit longer and then bagged to return for the streamed final table.
He, Kempton, and Leonard each picked up their third cash of the series, while Chidwick, Wantman, and Yokosawa each notched their second. Whoever wins this event will overtake Event #2 winner Kazuomi Furuse atop the series leaderboard in the race to be crowned the U.S. Poker Open champion and be awarded the Golden Eagle trophy and a $25,000 PGT Passport.
