Patrick Leonard and Espen Jørstad have climbed to the top of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) mountain to win their first WSOP bracelet in Event #55: $1,000 Tag Team.
Leonard and Jørstad topped 913 teams to win the $148,067 first-place prize after defeating Corey Paggeot and Jamie Kerstetter heads-up.
The only team event of the 2022 WSOP would see a huge increase from last year's event that attracted 641 teams. The field would be reduced to just five teams heading into the final day of play as Paggeot / Kerstetter held the chip lead.
Mackenzie Kraemer / Jon Schiller would be the first to fall in fifth place when their pocket nines ran into the pocket jacks of Kerstetter. Paggeot / Kerstetter continued to chip up before Leonard / Jørstad doubled through the Japanese duo of Yutaru Tsugaru / Taichi Ichikawa with ace-seven against pocket fours.
The Argentian duo of Franco Spitale / Martin Pochat exited in fourth place when their ace-three was outdrawn by the queen-ten of Kerstetter. Tsugaru / Ichikawa exited shortly after when their queen-ten was rivered by the eight-seven of Paggeot.
Paggeot / Kerstetter entered heads-up play with a commanding eight-to-one chip lead, but Leonard / Jørstad found two doubles to move into the lead. Both teams exchanged the chip lead numerous times before Paggeot opened the button and then four-bet king-four only to have Jørstad three-bet and then jam from the big blind with ace-jack.
With Leonard / Jørstad now holding a two-to-one advantage, the final hand would play out that saw Paggeot all-in with king-jack against the pocket sevens of Leonard. The board fell safe for Leonard / Jørstad, and they were crowned the Tag Team champions to earn their first WSOP bracelet.
