There are power-packed lineups in poker and there are power-packed lineups and the “Top Guns Cash Game” on Poker After Dark is the latter. Over $1 million is on the table at the start of the $200/$400 game with heavyweights from the live and online world battling on the felt.
The latest bundle of gold to be dropped in THE VAULT on PokerGO is a No Limit cash game featuring the world’s best battling it out at nosebleed stakes.
Headlining the game is the greatest poker player of all-time, Phil Ivey. He has been in the news for non-poker items in recent weeks but there is no better player at the peak of his powers than Ivey. Whenever he enters a game, all eyes are on him.
Ivey bought into the game for $250,000 as did Tom Dwan and Finland’s number-one, Patrik Antonius. By this stage in their respective careers, the two players were featured on nearly a weekly basis in televised poker shows. People forget how they came up battling each other in online games and were still doing so in 2009.
Joining them is another one of their online brethren in Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies. The two Finnish players met each other growing up and rose simultaneously in the online ranks. Sahamies is among the biggest winners is online history and makes his first ever Poker After Dark appearance in this episode.
The other two players in the lineup are members of poker’s “old guard” in Eli Elezra and Howard Lederer, both of whom buy-in for $100,000. The two tangle in one of the first pots of the game with one going broke and having to rebuy. The result will leave you breathless.
Dwan starts the game off with an $800 straddle and the always popular “seven-deuce” game gets thrown into the mix as well.
All the players in the game were among the world’s best when the episode was taped but are also action junkies at heart. Bets are made for what suits will hit the flop with four-figure amounts at stake even for players not in the hand. It gets to the point where 30 minutes in Ivey has a pen and paper lodged next to his chips to keep track of the action.
The game created so much action that Poker After Dark brought back the same lineup the following week for Round 2 of the cash game.
Before that enters THE VAULT, check out the first edition of the game with big bluffs and huge pots at every turn.
