Matt Savage lit social media on fire recently when he announced the Social Experiment event as part of the California State Poker Championship. Players in the event won’t be allowed to have electronic devices, headphones, hoodies or sunglasses to “create a social interaction amongst players.”
The tournament runs Saturday, April 29 at the Commerce Casino for a $350 buy-in and features a $100,000 guarantee.
Savage tweeted about the event on Thursday and, as expected, players had plenty to say.
The @CommerceCasino $100,000 GTE $350 “Social Experiment” will be no electronic devices allowed, headphones, hoodies, or sunglasses allowed. https://t.co/aZeLEW2nl6

While most of the feedback was generally positive, some players were quick to voice their disapproval.
@SavagePoker @CommerceCasino this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of. Not only pointless but counter to what the community wants.

Players started splitting hairs about being allowed to wear hooded sweatshirts. Savage did confirm that players can wear them but hoods must be down during play. Poker pro Eddy Sabat suggested a fashionable choice for players worrying about being cold.
