The Borgata Spring Poker Open kicked off this week with 18 days full of tournament action running to May 5th. The East Coast landmark is a favorite with players with their long series and large event guarantees. Fortunately for any level of tilt, the Borgata has enough distractions for players to avoid burnout.
The Noms
The Borgata has five flagship fine dining restaurants on property catering to the discerning high rollers. Wolfgang Puck’s American Grille and Bobby Flay Steak are steps from the poker room; Angeline by Michael Symon for Italian, Izakaya for Japanese and the Old Homestead Steak House flank out around the casino.
The Eats
Bread + Butter is a 24-hour diner that churns out some of the best breakfast sandwiches in Atlantic City. They’re quick, delicious and almost always have a table of poker players already sitting ready to talk hand histories. There are rumors of players grabbing a Taylor Ham & Egg Sandwich before checking in and ordering one for the road after check out.
The Marketplace Eatery, formerly known as the food court, the downstairs space had a recent facelift and upgraded the food options. Burgers, pizza, burritos and Philly cheesesteaks are still on the menu, but a salad storefront and expansive deli gives a break from the standard fare. Ben & Jerry’s is the lone holdover from the old food court.
N.O.W. – Noodles of the World – is a can’t miss late night option, staying open to 4 am on the weekends. The menu covers a collection of Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Korean influences to something for everyone.
The Treats
Spa Toccare has relaxation packages for any tilt level, from the basic facial to a 90-minute massage the spa should be a weekly appointment for anyone on the grind. The Immersion Spa is on the 32nd floor for a one-of-a-kind experience that only the Borgata can offer.
Borgata’s Outdoor Pool is a recent addition to the property that features the Vegas-style day club experience, but is only open seasonally. There is an indoor pool with hot tubs, but is popular with kids if you’re looking for a relaxing experience.
The Borgata Baking Company can be a quick stop for a coffee and donut or an all-out indulgent dessert experience. All manners of cupcakes, cookies, cake pops and macaroons will make fast friends at the table should want a friendly distraction.
The Beats
The Borgata features Premier Nightclub, the Music Box and the Event Center for entertainment. Ben Folds and Buddy Guy both have performances during the Series, comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gardell are booked for shows and Premier has Paul Castro, Fashen and Mak J scheduled to play.
