Brian Rast Earns His Fourth Bracelet on PokerGO, Brunson Sixth in final WSOP Tournament

All eyes were on one man at the World Series of Poker during the $10,000 2-7 NL Lowball final table. Doyle Brunson’s final WSOP event commemorated an era and career with one final crack at a bracelet. Brunson’s shot for #11 aired on PokerGO with a spoiler in the winner’s circle named Brian Rast.

An announcement from Brunson this week that he was retiring from poker spurred him to play the $10,000 2-7 NL Lowball as his event. Known as “poker’s purest form,” 2-7 fit as a way to send Brunson off into the sunset.

The final table did not disappoint with nearly all players already owning a bracelet. Rast and Brunson were joined by Dario Sammartino, John Henningan, and Mike Wattel among other greats. Watch the full final table here:

Brunson entered the final table in contention with a walk-off home run in a career defined by memorable moments. The whole poker community was on Brunson’s side and he gave them a reason to cheer early. A field of 95 went to a final table of eight and Brunson captured an early double from Rast.

The good run did not continue for Brunson and he laddered up to sixth before departing. The Texan fell to a Lonestar State native in James Alexander. All of poker was rooting for Brunson to hang on just a while longer but a poor draw sent the gunslinger back to the range.

The ceremony of the moment ended with Brunson’s departure and the field carried on without him. Rast and Wattel crawled through heads up play for three hours before Rast clinched his fourth bracelet. The NL 2-7 Lowball title accompanies Rast’s two $50,000 Poker Players Championship wins and a $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em victory.
