Darius Samual is now a World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner. On Saturday, Samuel won Event #6: $25,000 Heads-Up NL Hold’em Championship at the 2024 WSOP for $500,000.
Samual defeated James Chen in Round 1, Ian Matakis in Round 2, Matthew Wantman in Round 3, John Smith in the Quarterfinal Round, Artur Martirosian in the Semifinal Round, and Faraz Jaka in the Final Round.
During the final match, Samuel had the upper hand, constantly separating himself from Jaka and keeping his opponent at arm’s length. At one point, Samuel had a big lead and found two queens. He took those queens up against Jaka’s ace-king, but Jaka won the flip to get back into the match. Samuel didn’t waver and eventually sealed the deal.
On the final hand, Jaka was all in and at risk with ace-six of spades and up against Samual’s king-queen. Jaka flopped an ace, but the flop also contained a king and a queen to give Samual two pair. The turn and river were clean for Samual and the 39-year-old businessman from England was crowned champion.
