Freddy Heller bagged the top stack and leads the six remaining players in Event #6: $1,640 No-Limit Hold'em of the Stairway To Millions at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas.
Michael Wang won Event #5 and will have an opportunity for back-to-back victories, although he will have some work to do as he enters the final day as the short stack. Kenny Huynh, Fred Tada, Stephen Song, and Brett Kennedy all sit in the middle of the pack when play resumes at The Venetian on Wednesday, September 14 at noon to play to a winner.
The field of 75 entrants created a prize pool of $112,500, and the top 12 finishers earned a piece of it. All players who made it into the money received prize money in addition to a $2,740 seat into Event #7. The top three finishers will skip a step and receive a $5,350 seat into Event #8, and the eventual winner will claim $22,458 along with the seat.
Heller was seen accumulating chips near the bubble when he picked up ladies to knock out Mark Dickstein. CJ Peake held nearly a million in chips at that time, but his stack dwindled as he doubled Wang and conceded a pot to Heller. Peake ultimately fell on the money bubble when his tens couldn't hold up against Heller's suited ace-ten turned flush.
Once the bubble burst, a trio of eliminations quickly transpired. Jesse Lonis was gone in 12th when his short stack ran into a superior pocket pair, Philip Shing lost his remaining chips nearly simultaneously and was eliminated in 11th, and Qing Liu was ousted in 10th, although the latter two did secure a cash for a second consecutive day.
The nine remaining players then converged on the unofficial final table, and Kennedy quickly doubled to leave Daniel Sepiol short in a kings-versus-jacks cooler. Sepiol doubled a couple of times to stay alive, but ultimately made his exit in ninth place when his flopped set was no good against Heller's turned flush.
Landon Tice was the next elimination in eighth place on a tough beat for a sizable pot when he was two-outered on the river by Kennedy and lost to a superior full house. Gus Kalathakis entered the final table as chip leader, but he couldn't continue his momentum and was ousted on a flip in seventh place, while the six surviving players bagged for the night.
