Jake Schindler Grabs $324,000 Win in Event #5 of 2021 PokerGO Cup

The first of two $25,000 buy-in events at the 2021 PokerGO Cup is in the books. The event concluded on Sunday with Jake Schindler capturing the $324,000 first-place prize. Schindler topped a field of 36 entries to win the event.

“I pretty much just card racked,” Schindler said after the win. “I didn’t have many decisions. Everything went well.”

For Schindler, the win became his second PokerGO Tour victory of the year. He previously won a $25,000 event in May for $310,500. He has nine cashes in PokerGO Tour events this year.

“I’m just competitive, so it’s a good outlet for that,” he said when asked about what drives him to compete at the game’s highest levels. “It’s the only outlet I really have. I like it. I like competing.”

Schindler also spoke about the importance of preparation off the felt.

“Now, it’s extremely important,” Schindler said. “In the past, I don’t think it mattered quite as much, but everybody is in the lab doing solver stuff, so if you don’t do some of that then you’ll probably be left behind. I think it’s pretty important.”

With the blinds at 15,000-30,000 with a 30,000 big blind ante, play folded to Daniel Negreanu in the small blind and he raised all in for 420,000 with queen-seven of spades. Jake Schindler looked down to find king-queen of hearts in the big blind and made a quick call. Negreanu did turn a flush draw but a blank on the river sent him out the door in sixth place for $45,000.

Sean Winter hit the rail next, collecting $75,000 for his fifth-place finish, and then it was Stephen Chidwick busting in fourth for $99,000. Chidwick was unable to beat Schindler’s queen-jack with pocket sevens.

David Coleman, who was at his third final table of the 2021 PokerGO Cup, was the next player to bust, falling in third place for $144,000. With the blinds at 20,000-40,000 with a 40,000 big blind ante, Schindler moved all in from the small blind with nine-six and Coleman called off his short stack with ace-three from the big blind. Coleman was all in for 200,000. Schindler flopped a nine to take the lead and turned a flush to seal the deal.

Schindler began heads-up play with a sizable chip lead and he rode that lead to a victory over David Peters. With the blinds at 25,000-50,000 with a 50,000 big blind ante, Schindler limped in from the button with queen-jack of diamonds. Peters raised all in from the big blind for 930,000 with pocket sixes. Schindler made the call and it was off to the races. Schindler flopped a queen and held from there. Peters, a two-time U.S. Poker Open champion, collected $216,000 for the runner-up finish.

The final table payouts are as follows.

In addition to the $324,000 in prize money that Schindler won, he collected 194 points for the 2021 PokerGO Cup leaderboard. That moved him up to fifth place in the standings.

Coleman picked up 86 points for his result at this final table, increasing to 197 points overall, which puts him at fourth on the 2021 PokerGO Cup leaderboard.

The top 10 of the 2021 PokerGO Tour leaderboard remains unchanged in regards to the places the players are in, but Winter and Peters added points with their finishes in this event. Winter is in sixth place and now just seven points behind Toby Lewis, whereas Peters remains in 10th but closed the gap with those ahead of him.
