The 2024 Super High Roller Series kicked off from the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Spa in North Cyprus, with Event #1: $25,750 No-Limit Hold'em (8-Max).
Kayhan Mokri finished Day 1 with the over-whelming chip lead with 2,955,000 in his bag. He leads ahead of WSOP bracelet winner Santhosh Suvarna, Leonard Maue, Dejan Kaladjurdjevic, Roman Hrabec, Maksim Vaskresenski, Sam Greenwood, and Brian Kim, who will all return on Sunday, August 18, to play down to a winner who will take home the $316,000 first-place prize and a gold PGT Cup.
The 39-entrant field created a prize pool of $995,500 that will pay the final six players. PGT regulars and title holders such as Artur Martirosyan, Mikita Badziakouski, Aram Zobian, Jeremy Ausmus, Seth Davies, Nick Petrangelo, Adrian Mateos, Alex Kulev, Masashi Oya, Ren Lin, and Phil Ivey were all in contention before hitting the rail prior to the conclusion of Day 1.
On the cusp of reaching the final table with ten players remaining, Leonard Maue found a double through Maksim Vaskresenski, while Brian Kim flopped trips and improved to quads to essentially double through Sam Greenwood. Benjamin Heath was at-risk with the weaker hand, but turned a flush to stay alive as Dejan Kaladjurdjevic doubled with ace-jack against ace-queen shortly after.
The final hand of the day would come with Antoine Hasbani all-in with pocket sixes, Heath all-in with ace-king, and Mokri having them both covered with king-queen. Mokri flopped two pair, and no help came for Heath or Hasbani to see the double knockout end play.
The final table will be an International affair, with each player representing a different country. Mokri plays out of Norway, while representatives are from Canada, Czech Republic, Poland, Montenegro, India, Germany, and the United States of America.
