The marquee event of the 2024 Super High Roller Series kicked off from the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Spa in North Cyprus, with Day 1 of the $306,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl IX attracting 24 entrants.
The 24-entrant field was tied for 12th largest in Super High Roller Bowl history, and created a $7,056,000 prize pool that will pay the final four players. A min-cash will be $750,000 in prize money, while third place will be $1,200,000 in prize money. Reaching heads-up play guarantees the final two players $1,900,000 in prize money, while the winner will take home the $3,206,000 first-place prize, 600 PGT points, and the Super High Roller Bowl championship ring.
Only eight levels of play were on the schedule for Day 1 of Super High Roller Bowl IX, as several players made their Super High Roller Bowl debuts. Artur Martirosyan, Leon Tsoukernik, and Masashi Oya were early casualties, while Phil Ivey made his exit from the feature table when his two pair was outdrawn by Alex Kulev's pair and flush draw on the river.
2019 Super High Roller Bowl Bahamas champion Daniel Dvoress was eliminated in 20th place, while Nick Petrangelo, Mikita Badziakouski, and Brian Kim all fell next. After dominating the lead-up events with four cashes and a victory, Adrian Mateos' luck would run out in 16th place before Matthias Eibinger was the final elimination of the day before the final 14 redrew to two tables.
The last entrant of the tournament, Leonard Maue, leads the remaining 14 players into Day 2. Maue ended with 1,245,000 in chips and holds a slender lead over Juan Pardo, who bagged 1,132,000 in chips. Next on the leaderboard is Dejan Kaladjurdjevic with 845,000 in chips, followed by Seth Davies with 828,000 in chips.
Other players still in contention include Jeremy Ausmus, Sam Greenwood, Bryn Kenney, Patrik Antonius, Martin Kabrhel, and Santhosh Suvarna.
