The 2024 Super High Roller Series continued from the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Spa in North Cyprus, with Masashi Oya claiming victory in Event #4: $51,500 No-Limit Hold'em (7-Max) to win his second PGT title.
The Japanese poker pro topped a 30-player field to win his second PGT title after he won his first WSOP bracelet at WSOP Paradise at the conclusion of the 2023 PGT season. This is Oya's third-largest career score, surpassing his runner-up finish in the 2022 U.S. Poker Open $50k Main Event for $504,000. According to The Hendon Mob, Oya's lifetime career earnings now exceed $8,536,000, furthering his gap over Tsugunari Toma as the leader on Japan's All-Time Money List by nearly $5.36 million.
The final table livestream began with seven players, but only the final five finishing in the money. From the start, the play would be cautious as players looked to position themselves in a spot to guarantee at least an $87,500 min-cash. After nearly 90 minutes of back-and-forth play, Samuel Ju would be eliminated in seventh-place when his ace-ten-suited failed to improve against Adrian Mateos' ace-queen.
The final six players then played for an additional three hours with Oya dominating the action eventually running his stack to nearly 70% of the chips in play. Event #3 runner-up Mateos was all-in with ace-deuce against Danilo Velasevic' kings. Mateos flopped a deuce against Velasevic's flush draw, and when Mateos spiked third deuce on the turn, he doubled and left Velasevic with just one big blind. Velasevic doubled next hand and was soon followed by a Mateos double, before the final hand came for Velasevic when he was forced all-in with jack-six from the big blind and lost to Oya's seven-four for a flopped pair.
With the remaining players now in the money, the shackles were loosened, and Ausmus was the immediate recipient as he doubled twice through Oya. Eibinger then doubled with ace-jack against Oya's nine-six-suited, before it was Mizzi's turn to be all-in with queen-ten against Oya's queen-jack. Mizzi flopped chopped outs, but was unable to spike what he needed and exited in fifth-place.
Eibinger was the next to fall when he was all-in with queen-jack-suited against the king-queen-suited of Oya. The board ran out ten-high and Event #5 was down to the final three players. Mateos was next to be all-in for his last 3.5 big blinds with nine-three against the ten-three of Oya. Neither player flopped a pair, and Mateos was eliminated in third place as Oya entered heads-up play with a five-to-one chip advantage over Ausmus with only 60 big blinds on the table.
Ausmus was all-in for 12 big blind with ace-deuce-suited against Oya's queen-nine. Both players flopped a pair, and Ausmus improved to trip aces on the river to double back into contention. Ausmus then picked up two key pots and was now possessing the chip lead. However, he would soon relinquish that when he picked off Oya with bottom pair, but Oya held top pair to take back the lead himself.
Ausmus then took a stand on the turn with pocket kings, but Oya had flopped two pair. The river bricked out for Ausmus, and he would have to settle for a runner-up finish, while Oya collected the $535,000 first-place prize, 321 PGT points, and the PGT Gold Cup.
