Sam Soverel Leads Final 13 of PokerStars NAPT Las Vegas $10K High Roller
The PokerStars North American Poker Tour Las Vegas crowned another winner at Resorts World in Las Vegas, with Sam Soverel emerging victorious in the $10,300 High Roller. Soverel topped the 170-entrant field and defeated Nicholas Seward heads-up to claim the $385,750 first-place prize and 386 PGT points.
This is Soverel's third PGT title of the season, where he has amassed 1,077 PGT points from ten cashes and $1,320,425 in PGT earnings. Soverel has now won nine career PGT titles and has cashed 75 times while reaching the final table 52 times. Soverel has now amassed $9,315,288 in career PGT earnings.
Day 3 of the NAPT Las Vegas $10,300 High Roller returned with just 13 players from the original 170-entrant field. Soverel held a commanding chip lead to start the day with over 100 big blinds, and his nearest rival having less than 70 big blinds. Following the eliminations of Jon Kyte, Tyler Hirschfeld, Ernest Bush, and David Stamm, the final table of nine was set with Nicholas Seward moving into the lead with twice his nearest rival, Soverel.
Ryan Hohner was the first elimination at the final table when he lost a race holding pocket queens against the ace-king of Seward. Brian Altman lost a hand to be left with three big blinds before his king-seven was outdrawn by the two pair of Seward in a multi-way pot. Danny Wong was all-in with pocket kings and was looked up by Barry Woods and his ace-ten. An ace on the river ended Wong's tournament in seventh place. Adam Adler found himself all-in holding king-jack against Soverel's ace-queen, and when the board ran out seven-high, Adler fell in sixth place.
Valentyn Shabelnyk was the next to be eliminated when he was all-in with queen-ten suited against the ace-jack suited of Seward. The nine-high board ended the Ukrainian's run in fifth place. Shortly after, David Coleman found himself all-in with pocket jacks against the ace-seven suited of Soverel. Soverel went runner-runner to make a straight, and Soverel fell in fourth place. Soverel began to make his run back up the chip counts, and after he eliminated Barry Woods in third place, Soverel entered heads-up play with a better than three-to-one advantage over Seward.
Both players traded pots back and forth before Soverel edged out to a seven-to-one lead. Soverel then put his foot on the gas hitting two pair on the river to leave Seward with under five big blinds. Seward doubled twice, but his run of good fortune ended there when on the final hand, Soverel moved all-in on the river with his flopped top pair, and Seward check-called all-in with his flopped second pair.
