Shannon Shorr had already tasted one victory during the PGT Last Chance Series after winning Event #2 for $297,500 and after coming in the Event #6: $10,100 No-Limit Hold'em Final Table with the chip lead survived an early hiccup to defeat Boris Angelov heads-up for his second title in a week plus another $290,000.

Shorr would lose the chip lead early in the day when he rivered a pair of kings holding king-ten only for Angelov to show ace-king for the same pair with a better kicker. Shorr would then watch as his chips were passed along to Ren Lin. Angelov would open-shove from under the gun, covering the table with ace-deuce only for Lin to wake up with ace-king next to act.

Lin and Angelov would then flop an ace to eliminate PGT regular Stephen Chidwick in fifth place for $75,400 plus 75 PGT points as his pocket sevens turned to dust. Fellow PGT regular Sean Winter was the following short stack to fall as he was forced all in from the big blind with jack-nine and had two live cards against Lin's queen-three, but queens on the flop and turn sent him packing in fourth place for $98,600 plus 99 PGT points.

With the back-to-back eliminations, Lin would take the chip lead into the start of three-handed play, but he would quickly surrender the chip lead to Shorr when he shoved the small blind with king-ten. Shorr found ace-six in the big blind, and after some confusion on Lin's bet size called for just over three million chips, an ace on the turn solidified the pot for Shorr, and he was right back in front.

A few hands later, Lin would again find himself open-shoving from the small blind with two broadway cards, this time holding queen-jack, but once again, Shorr would see a baby ace in the big blind with ace-four to be out in front. A four on the flop would seal Lin's fate, and he was out the door in third place for $127,600 and 128 PGT points.

Heads-up play lasted three hands as Angelov would find himself all in with pocket tens against Shorr's jack-eight of spades. A jack on the flop and an eight on the turn left Angelov to collect his $179,800 second-place prize plus 180 PGT points.

While the end of the tournament would end all Shorr, the day started with Dylan Linde and Jeremy Becker fighting for a spot in the 2024 PGT Championship as Linde needed a win while Becker needed a third place or better to qualify outright and a fifth place or better for one of the last Dream Passes into the Dream Seat Invitational.

However, both players entered the day as the two short stacks, and Linde was the first to fall when his pocket eights ran squarely into Winter's pocket jacks during the day's first level, sending him out the door in seventh place for $46,400.

Becker would then find himself with the shortest stack in the room and, with the big blind looming next hand, got in his last 10 big blinds holding queen-nine of clubs from under the gun only for Angelov to wake up with king-queen from the big blind.

The board ran out trip aces, Angelov held the better kicker, and Becker's dream of the 2024 PGT Championship came crashing to a halt as the emerging pro went out the door in sixth place for $58,000 plus 58 PGT points to fall 11 points short of Byron Kaverman for the final Dream Pass of the series.

Shorr, Brandon Wilson, and Martin Zamani Capture Dream Seats

Shorr's second win of the series tied him with Brandon Wilson for trophies on the series. Still, unlike Wilson, Shorr found a third cash during the six events, and that was the difference to vault him to the top of the leaderboard with 612 points to secure one of the three Dream Seats into the 2024 PGT Championship.

Wilson already had a Dream Seat locked up heading into Event #6, but Event #5 winner Martin Zamani had to sweat the final table before seeing both Becker and Linde fall just short as his 303 points ended up more than enough for the third and final Dream Seat.

Linde may have missed out on a Dream Seat, but thanks to his three cashes during the series, he was the first to be awarded a Dream Pass into the Dream Seat Invitational on the evening of January 9th. Joining Linde in the final tournament before the 2024 PGT Championship are David Chen, who also picked up three cashes to finish with 208 points during the six-event series, and Landon Tice, who only cashed once, but his runner-up finish in Event #3 held on for one of the six Dream Passes.

Sam Laskowitz was looking for his fifth cash of the series, but after bubbling, Event #6 was left to wonder whether his 162 points would be enough to qualify for a Dream Pass. While he wound up finishing the series in 14th place on the leaderboard, he too would score a Dream Pass as those above him had already secured their place in the 2024 PGT Championship.

Byron Kaverman also failed to find a score in Event #6, which placed him 15th on the final leaderboard but managed to edge Stephen Song by one point for the final Dream Pass of the series.

Jonathan Tamayo and Angelov Score Third Cash to Qualify for PGT Championship

It came down to the year's final event, but 2024 Main Event Champion Jonathan Tamayo finally scored his elusive third cash of the 2024 PGT season as he finished eighth in Event #6 to add 46 points to his total to finish the season in sixth place.

Fellow 2024 Main Event Final Tabliest Angelov had also been stuck on two cashes since the summer. However, thanks to the 180 points he earned for his runner-up finish, he will end the season in 18th place heading into the Championship on January 10th.

With Tamayo and Angelov becoming eligible for the end-of-year freeroll, two spots disappeared as 47th Place Finisher Danny Tang and 48th place finisher Becker would be on the outside looking in as we head to the Championship Event.

However, while Tamayo and Angelov found their third cashes of the year, fellow 2024 WSOP final tabliest Niklas Astedt, Jason Sagle, Andres Gonzalez, and Malo Latinois all failed to find three cashes paving the way for Justin Saliba, Matthew Wantman, Jonathan Little and Isaac Haxton to score a seat into the 2024 Championship.

Saliba had been in 40th place heading into event #6, but thanks to his fifth-place finish, Chidwick vaulted him for the final spot, leaving him sweating out the day.

2024 WSOP bracelet winners Matthew Lambrecht and Elie Nakache also failed to pick up a third cash on the season and will finish on the outside looking into the PGT Championship as Sergio Aido and Brek Schutten snuck their way into the top 40.

Six seats remain up for grabs into the 2024 PGT Championship, and the 2024 Dream Seat Invitational is already underway as the six Dream Pass winners from the PGT Last Chance Series, plus another 19 qualifiers, battle it out for the final spots.

The PGT Live reporting team will be on site until a winner is reached, and you can follow all the action here before catching day one of the 2024 PGT Championship on January 10th with exclusive coverage on PokerGO and live reporting on PGT.com.
