Adam Hendrix battled back from the final table short stack to top a field of 23 players and win event number six, the Texas PLO Roundup High Roller #1: $5,100 Pot-Limit Omaha for $51,750 in prize money after defeating Sean Rafael heads-up.
This is Hendrix's second cash and first PGT title of the season, bringing his total career earnings to nearly $6,800,000 according to The Hendon Mob.
The field included PGT regs Arthur Morris, Jim Collopy, and Philip Shing, who were all looking to add to their coveted PGT points totals but failed to make the seven-handed final table. No bother, they'll have two more cracks at it, as high rollers two and three run Saturday and Sunday.
With only the top four making the money, everyone was looking to maneuver their stacks throughout the event which, paired with the turbo structure, led to a very swingy day for most players. After the field of 23 runners was whittled down to the final table of seven, Ronald Keijzer and James Chen were quick to exit in seventh and sixth place, respectively, and Jose Rodriguez was the unfortunate bubble boy when his middle pair couldn't fade the straight draw of Josh Arieh.
Orod Ashegh held the overall chip lead for a significant part of the tournament and the final table was no different, as he carried a one-point-five-to-one surplus over his next closest opponent, Keijzer. But after his flopped two pair couldn't hold against the running flush outs of Hendrix, Ashegh was out the door in fourth place, collecting his first career PGT cash for $12,650.
Arieh started the final table near the bottom of the chip counts but managed to close the gap by beating Chen in an early pot and eliminating Rodriguez on the bubble. Arieh made it to three-handed play but was at a deficit to Hendrix and Rafael, who were near even in chips. He would get close to overtaking second chip position by beating both players in early pots, but his day would come to an end when Hendrix flopped a set of jacks against his top pair, which turned into rivered quads. This is Arieh's ninth cash of the PGT season.
Hendrix and Rafael would exchange small to medium sized pots during the beginning of heads-up play without any real drastic changes in chip counts, but things came to a head after Rafael got it in with a pair and a straight draw on the flop in a sizeable pot against the overpair of Hendrix. Rafael's outs would fail to materialize and Hendrix was able to lock up the victory and take home the belt buckle trophy.
At the season's end, the top 40 eligible players on the PGT leaderboard will qualify for the PGT Championship. The 2024 PGT Championship will be a $1,000,000 freeroll with a $500,000 first-place. Along with the top 40 eligible players, limited PGT Championship "Dream Seat” winners will be awarded through special events and promotions. Information on the Dream Seat promotions can be found here.
This tournament series is part of the PokerGO Tour (PGT), and players earn points based on the amount they cash in PGT-qualifying buy-ins of $3,000 or more. The full PGT schedule and current leaderboard can be found here.
