Matthew Wantman Wins 4th PGT Title at U.S. Poker Open
The 2025 U.S. Poker Open kicked off from the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada with Event #1: $5,100 No-Limit Hold'em. The tournament drew 129 entries and Francis Anderson leads the final seven players.
Anderson held one of the top stacks for much of the day after scoring an early double knockout with aces against kings against queens. He leveraged his stack and continued to accumulate throughout the evening before he bagged the overnight chip lead with 27% of the chips in play. Anderson leads a final table that includes Ping Liu, Kristen Foxen, Michael Arellano, Justin Saliba, Anthony Hu, and David Peters. These seven players will return already guaranteed $25,800, while all eyes will be on the $158,025 first-place prize, 158 PGT points, and the Event #1 mini Golden Eagle trophy.
The field of 129 entrants created a prize pool of $645,000 and the final 19 players earned a piece of it. John Riordan was the unfortunate bubble boy when he got his last few chips in and ran into pocket kings. Bertrand Rosique (19th), Dylan Weisman (18th), Eric Blair (17th), Kazuomi Furuse (16th), Eric Baldwin (15th), Erik Seidel (14th), Karaminder Dhillon (13th), Jim Collopy (12th), David 'ODB' Baker (11th), Patrick Leonard (10th), and Yifu He (9th) were among those to cash in the event.
Popular Japanese vlogger Masato Yokosawa made a deep run and got his chips in with a pair and a flush late in the evening, but when he couldn't improve against Liu's straight, Yokosawa was eliminated in eighth place on the final hand of the night. The seven remaining players drew seats and bagged to return for the streamed final table.
