The 2024 Super High Roller Series continued from the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Spa in North Cyprus, with Joni Jouhkimainen winning Event #9: $51,500 Pot-Limit Omaha (7-Max) for $526,900 in prize money.
This is Jouhkimainen's first PGT title and the largest cash of his poker career, surpassing his third-place finish in the 2012 EPT Barcelona €5,300 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event for €404,050. Jouhkimainen's lifetime tournament earnings now exceed $7,243,000, according to The Hendon Mob, which keeps him in third place on Finland's All-Time Money List behind Patrik Antonius ($22,995,776) and Juha Helppi ($9,047,259).
The penultimate event of the Super High Roller Series attracted 27 entrants and created a prize pool of $1,323,000 that paid the final four players. There was initial discussion early on Day 1 about concluding Event #9 in one day, and once Tomasz Krzesinski was eliminated on the money bubble in fifth place, the final four players decided to play down to the final three.
Christopher Frank was eliminated in fourth place, and the final three concluded play with Gergo Nagy holding the chip lead over Jouhkimainen and Bogdan Capitan. Day 2 action began with the elimination of Capitan, and with Nagy and Jouhkimainen playing for the $600,000 first-place prize, a heads-up deal was made that ensured both players of a $431,100 payday, while the victor of the heads-up match would take home an additional $95,800.
That victor would be Jouhkimainen, as he claimed the $526,900 first-place prize and the PGT Gold Cup. Nagy - who finished fourth in Event #8 for $25,000 - added $431,100 to his Super High Roller Series earnings after finishing as the runner-up in Event #9.
