The 2024 PGT PLO Series II presented by PLO Mastermind continued from the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada with Event #8: $25,200 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship. The tournament drew 62 entries and Samuli Sipila leads the final 11 players.
The Finnish player and previous PGT PLO Series champion leveraged his stack to play lots of pots in the later levels as he accumulated chips and snagged the overnight lead. Sipila leads Michael Duek, Joni Jouhkimainen, Ben Tollerene, Ben Lamb, Eelis Parssinen, Jesse Lonis, Fernando Habegger, Billy Tarango, Josh Arieh, and Alex Foxen as the final 11 players to return on the soft bubble.
The field of 62 entrants created a prize pool of $1,550,000 and the final nine players will earn a piece of it. A min-cash will pay $46,500, but all eyes will be on the $496,000 first-place prize, 298 PGT points, and the Event #8 trophy.
Daniel Negreanu made a deep run and was looking to add another trophy following his victory in Event #6. Negreanu was one of several players in contention for the title of series champion before disaster struck when he got aces in preflop. He was against Jouhkimainen's aces and a chop was likely, but the Finn made a backdoor flush and Negreanu was knocked out in 12th place for what would be the final elimination of the night.
