Calvin Anderson is now a five-time WSOP bracelet winner after topping Event #88: $10,000 8-Game Mix Championship at the 2024 World Series of Poker. Anderson is now a member of the five-time WSOP bracelet winners club, including Daniel Alaei, Yuri Dzivielevski, Eli Elezra, Adam Friedman, Benny Glaser, John Monnette, and Nick Schulman.
Anderson defeated Dai Ishibashi heads-up to win the $413,446 first-place prize in the inaugural running of this event. Anderson's live tournament earnings now eclipse $6,122,000, according to The Hendon Mob.
After winning his first WSOP bracelet in 2014 in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, Anderson won his second four years later in the $10,000 Razz Championship. Anderson picked up two WSOP Online bracelets in 2023 before winning his fifth in this event.
The inaugural running of the 8-Game Mix Championship attracted an 189-entrant field and created a prize pool of $1,757,700 that paid the final 29 players. Those finishing in the money included Ben Yu, Brandon Shack-Harris, Ryan Miller, Connor Drinan, Cary Katz, Chris Brewer, Maxx Coleman, Danny Wong, Adam Friedman, Yuri Dzivielevski, and Gus Hansen.
On Day 3, there would be 22 players remaining, and once the final table was underway, Andres Korn was the first to fall before a quick succession saw the eliminations of Tom Koral, Paul Gunness, and Mike Watson.
Ali Eslami was eliminated in third place before Anderson and Ishibashi bagged up for an additional day, with Anderson holding nearly a two-to-one chip advantage. Once play resumed on Day 4, Ishibashi chipped away at his deficit before Anderson took control in a Stud hand making queens-up. Anderson scooped two Omaha Hi-Lo hands with straights before the final hand played out in Pot-Limit Omaha. Ishibashi was all-in with a few straight draws against some high cards of Anderson. The board double-paired, and Ishibashi was eliminated in second place as Anderson was crowned the champion of Event #88.
